Genealogy was originally portrayed on a manually drawn family tree spanning generations of family members. It contained births, deaths and marriages and places where the family lived and died. Some lucky family members inherited heirlooms, family photos, certificates and diaries.
It was cumbersome to create a family tree. This changed with the Internet and the advent of digital family trees. Researchers hurried to digitize every record available, public records, newspapers, gravestones and books etc. Ancestry websites are still limited in what they can link to . Also shared family records has perpetuated initial errors.
